Alright boys and girls, tonight we head into the garage to check the
fire extinguisher. Check the pressure gauge and make sure it's in the
green zone. If it's under-pressure, it needs to be serviced. Is it dry
chemical? Is it Halon? Does it require a periodic service?
Next, check the mounting bracket. Is it secure? Is it metal? (not
plastic). Is it within easy reach if you are belted into your Pantera?
Here are the fire extinguisher regs from the SSCC 2015 rule book:
- Touring (95, 100, 105, 110): A 2.5 lb. minimum, automotive BC fire
extinguisher, with a secure quick-release mounting bracket made of
metal, must be within easy reach of the driver.
- Grand Touring (115, 120, 125): A 2.5 lb. minimum, automotive BC fire
extinguisher, with a secure quick-release mounting bracket made of
metal, must be within easy reach of the driver.
- Grand Sport (130, 135, 140, 145, 150): A 2.5 lb. minimum, automotive
BC fire extinguisher with a secure quick-release mounting bracket made
of metal, must be within easy reach of the driver. A
competition-approved fire system and fuel cell is recommended.
- Super Sport (160, 170): A competition approved fire system and fuel
cell is required (see “Fire System and Fuel Cell” section).
