[TPR] wheels

One more time. . .Yea, in one section of the rule book it does say tires that
are H rated will pass Tech for Touring Division but read ALL the rules quoted
below...a few points (again)

1. No one has ever went to any open road race with a Pantera and NOT passed
Tire Tech with street performance tires that had at least a V, W, Y or Z rated
street rubber or race tires unless they either did not meet minimum load ratings
(Bob Wood), or tires were cracked or had flat cornering spots/wear.

2. The issue on tire loading has been in the rule book for at least 20 years.

Erik and others were willing to waive the "V" speed rating for guys up until a
couple years ago but no more....the rules never changed (read all the Tech rules
below)

3. Actually Gary Hall was one of the sources that Eric talked to who confirmed
that ALL Pantera's that were mfg and imported into North America were imported
on Pirelli V rated tires. So that was the standard set years ago on speed
ratings.

4. I have seen about a dozen or more after market wheels on Pantera's at ORR's
and some had SPACERS....but I don't ever remember anyone ever asking Tech if
their wheels were okay....maybe Tech should have asked...Even Dan Courtney,
Elliott Kushner and others have passed Tech with monster 19-20" ghetto
aftermarket wheels and Eric at SS or JohnT at BORR/SORC have not had a
problem....but on the subject of SPACERS you are we opening up a can of worms
with Tire Tech. . .Don't think you really want to go there do you? Okay you
already have so that answers that question ;-)

If you are going to quote the rule book please don't do a 'Mikey' on us and only
quote part of what the ENTIRE rule book says on tires.

Whether it is BBORR, SORC, or SSCC keep in mind I have been to 43 orr's iand
dealed with all the sanctioning bodies in Nevada, Nebraska and Texas and Mexico
and have never had a Tire Tech problem....there is a reason....I READ ALL THE
RULES....;-))

The rule book for SSCC says and I quote again;
=======================================================================

XIII. TIRE REGULATIONS
1. LOAD CARRING CAPACITY: ALL TIRES MUST HAVE AN EQUAL OR GREATER
LOAD CARRYING CAPACITY THAN THE ORIGINAL TIRE. (I.e. The base tire for a 1999
Mustang is a P205/65R15 rated @ 1400 lbs. Any replacement tire must have a load
rating of at least
1400 lbs. Regardless of the speed rating or what Division/Class the vehicle is
competing.)

2. SPEED RATING: ALL TIRES MUST HAVE AN EQUAL OR GREATER SPEED
RATING THAN ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT (OEM) REGARDLESS OF WHAT
DIVISION/CLASS THE VEHICLE IS COMPETING IN. (i.e., A 1992 BMW 535i comes
equipped with 225/60VR15 tire from the factory. The car must have tires with an
equal or higher speed
rating to compete in any class, including Touring.)
A. Touring Division: DOT approved “U” rated tires (or better) will be
considered the Minimum
Standard.
B. Grand Touring Division: DOT approved “V” rated tires (or better) will be
considered the Minimum
         Standard.
C. Grand Sport Division: DOT approved “Z” or “W” rated tires are required.
 Should not be more
than two years old.
D. Super Sport Division: DOT approved “Z” or “Y” rated or approved racing
tires are required.
Should not be more than two years old.
E. Unlimited Division: Approved racing tires are required. -ORF. Unlimited
class cars may use certain DOT tires known to us to have been tested to speeds
above
the known limit of the tire.
3. Racing Tires: Because racing tires do not have load or speed ratings, those
who wish to use such tires
must submit the type of vehicle, the top speed, and the intended tire make,
model, & sizes for preapproval.
4. A low tire pressure warning system is highly recommended.
=======================================================================
I would suggest if anyone is planning to use aftermarket wheels they might want
to talk to the MFG 1st and vendors and owners like JT, Steve Hawkinson, Jim
Kuchura and others

Subject: Re: [TPR] wheels

I didn't mean to touch a nerve here, I think we're all for gaining a
competitive advantage, and I think we'd all agree if it's in the rule
book we'll stick to it but if it isn't can you really fail me for it?

The trouble we have in this instance, is there are some things Pantera
owners have found out aren't in the rule book at SSCC but will fail
you anyway. One such item is that the rule book indicates the minimum
speed rating for the tires on your Pantera must be H rated. But we
have several people who can tell you first hand, they were failed at
tech because they showed up with "Rule Book legal" tires. Tech wants
to see V or higher.

So when it comes to the spacers, we just want to be sure.

If I've taken this too far, my apologies. Let's get back to racing.
