SSC is not a road handling or touring around town event, it is a straight line speed event. The theory is that higher pressures keep the tire rounder with less sidewall flex. Sidewall flex means more frictional heat buildup. Too much speed and heat leads to tire failure. With that in mind that over the past 20 years, the tires put on your cars today have about half the sidewall, thus probably less than half the sidewall flex. I found 37 to 40 PSI in my /35 series tires gave me max adhesion verses my /50 series tires at 22 to 27 PSI for road course applications. So there is some truth in all that is being said, but try not to generalize the statements as one fits all vehicles or applications. Now let’s not talk truck tires

Mac ran owners manual pressures which is exactly what the C8 Z51 sticker reecommends.
My 25 year ORR history of running higher temps was based on a couple Goodyear and BFG tire engineers who recommended using higher inflation pressure based on tire failures they had data onin endurance events.
While Eric (Tire guy) now a Pantera owner confirmed the official recommended tire pressures he also lost a tire last Sept. 😂😂

Hi Dennis,
What does it say in your owners manual and on the car tire sticker regarding tire pressure?
The cold pressure increases approx 4 psi when measured hot, immediately at finish line.
I’ve seen a difference between 3 and 5 psi.
It probably also depends on your speed, IMO.

Only concern I have is on tire pressures Mac ran...but those lower air pressures worked for him and may work for others. For 25+ years of ORR'ing I have always
run +/- 38-40 Fronts and 42-44 psi rears in the Pantera. But the C8 is also a much heavier vehicle.
Thoughts, questions or comments?

No Pantera content here…so only copying you few because you either have a vette or are considering one in the future.
Malcolm “Mac” Johnson shared with me his C8’s vitals below at the NORC last Sunday.
BTW, MAC BTW uses hand timer won 1st place. In fact Mac usually wins his class.

Subject: C8 run
Well I must say I’m pleasantly surprised about my C8 cooling. My C6Z always runs 195-210 while cruising to Vegas at 100 degrees and 80-90mph. The new car runs 174-176 degrees at 100 outside temp. At race speeds 140-162mph, all temps come up to the 180s. I’m talking coolant, oil, and tranny. The last 10 miles running higher rpm’s in a lower gear to lessen speed variation pushed temps to 190. The only time I saw 200 was after slowing down to a crawl. All in all, it runs cool across the board. Regarding tires, I talked to Eric P and aired up the tires to about 33-34 cold. At speed the tires were 39-40 pounds but the temp stayed green “Normal “. No issues at all.
