The theory is that higher pressures keep the tire rounder with less sidewall flex. Sidewall flex means more frictional heat buildup. Too much speed and heat leads to tire failure. With that in mind that over the past 20 years, the tires put on your cars today have about half the sidewall, thus probably less than half the sidewall flex. I found 37 to 40 PSI in my /35 series tires gave me max adhesion verses my /50 series tires at 22 to 27 PSI for road course applications. So there is some truth in all that is being said, but try not to generalize the statements as one fits all vehicles or applications. My C6Z always runs 195-210 while cruising to Vegas at 100 degrees and 80-90mph. The new car runs 174-176 degrees at 100 outside temp. At race speeds 140-162mph, all temps come up to the 180s. I’m talking coolant, oil, and tranny. The last 10 miles running higher rpm’s in a lower gear to lessen speed variation pushed temps to 190. The only time I saw 200 was after slowing down to a crawl. All in all, it runs cool across the board. Regarding tires, I talked to Eric P and aired up the tires to about 33-34 cold. At speed the tires were 39-40 pounds but the temp stayed green “Normal “.
