[TPR] Fwd: Speed trap results

No doubt you guys are incredibly brave to do what you do. And, it makes
your speeds even more impressive. I mean that, sincerely. I think I said
that same thing to Asa Jay when I bought the car and he asked if I would do
some over-the-road-racing. Frankly, at 62 years old, I have never been
over 110 mph on the street (and, that was for only a few moments on a very
straight and very long Nevada road in a Maserati Quattroporte).

I have crashed enough times over 30 years of racing to know it hurts. I
have been in the infield medical facility three times when racing
professionally. So, I have that "lingering fear" when driving on the road
(and in the desert) that is different from racing on a track, where I know
there are corner workers and an ambulance/fire truck close by. Last year
at the Classic 24-hour at Dayton we hit 188 mph just after the S/F line in
our Panoz Esperante GT3 endurance car, and I would be fine going faster in
that environment.

In comparison, we still race professionally in the desert (unlimited Class
1 - open-wheel). My son is fearless and good, and he drives 100%. I have
crashed hard enough in the desert to need to air-evac my navigator out with
crushed vertebrae -- it took three hours and he was in shock by the time
the helicopter arrived. As a result, I am much slower compared to my son
because I am, frankly, afraid and drive with a much larger margin for
error. So, we do it with the realization that he will race hard, and when
it is my turn to take over, the team knows that I am going to go much
slower and leave a very large margin of error. The only reason they
tolerate me is because I pay for it and they want to keep racing in the
desert. Usually, if we are in the lead when it is my turn, I decline to
get in. If I had my preference, we would stop desert racing. But, that
would really disappoint the team.

It is clear you guys aren't just out there coasting around with a large
margin for error. To place as high as you do, you are driving hard. I
would not be able to do that. So again, I give you huge credit and I am
always glad to hear at the end of the races that you guys are ok.

God bless.

Regards,

Steven G. Lisa, Esq.
