[TPR] The Good, the bad and the ugly . . .

I have the same cam with IR-EFI as MD in my Ford 400 block and love it, don't know what the HP is as I have 10.5:1 compression but it'll pull the ass off of an elephant.

I know Kirby will weigh in here but he also hasn't driven his Pantera in 10 years....okay seems like 10 years now that he has the fancy schmantzy Ford GT replica! ;-)

I Iove my Com cams hyd roller.....will never go back to solid lifters unless its a race car and my Pantera is not a race car. Its a family car which occasionally sees some autobahn speeds... ;-)>

Ref Hyd Comp Cam 32-651-8....Duration 245 and .612 lift.......with a 10 over Cleveland block, 302B heads, IR-EFI, 180's and 11:1 comp on a 381 stroker we made max power of 503RWHP @ 6,000 and 477RWTQ....we kept R's at limit of 6,000 and made max torque at 5200 R

On previous 381ci stroker rebuilt 4 years earlier with the same build EXCEPT using a Holly 830 cfm and Rosch hi rise we made 445 RWHP but made max 391TQ at 4900 R's...REVING to 6300 R's.

Honestly, I could not tell the difference in power....and dyno power don't mean squat...Mike Trusty said the same stroker with EFI wouldn't sound as good meaning the EFI smoothed out the cam allot....lost the rumpty rump going to IR-EFI system but I still love it....

Thanks for the "encouragement" Mr. Kirby!

This morning I'm thinking a hydraulic roller would be nice . . . any good ideas for a cam/lifter replacement? I'm open to suggestions/ideas/theories.

thanks!

Sounds like a typical Pantera engine tear down... unfortunately.

Hi kids,

Thought I would share some fun . . .

Opened the Cleveland yesterday. My hope was to re-ring and check everything. 15K mile motor and time to set the valves anyway as they are making some noise (duh.)

I was told this is a 440hp motor. It dynoed 325 rwhp @6000rpm (and not near peak). It has always blown oil.
One plug was pretty oily when removed (#8). #1 piston had all the ring gaps nicely lined up . . . . #8 cylinder showed NO sign of a crosshatch pattern.

Bearings: some wear noted, definately want to replace these. Also some sign of dirt in oil!

When I pulled the pan I noticed gasket paper and glyptol chips stuck to the oil screen, along with some pieces of metallic debris. Not a good sign?

Anyway, pulled the crank and set it aside only to find 2 lobes of the cam shot - now I get to buy a new cam!!!

so, that is the status of fun and games in Colorado . . . .

David
