Subject: DIZZY GEAR INSPECTION & THERMOSTAT INSTALLED
Guys,
Attached you will see a couple photos of the bronze gear Art, Bill and I inspected today on my engine. Art did the lions share of teaching and wrenching and Bill and I shared the lions share of eating and drinking and second quessing Art! ;-)
So the gear was pulled, inspected, photographed and then reinstalled...see photos
The wear of the teeth was even and minimal...no sharp edges....no damage although the photos have some 'shadows' and flash 'glare; from oil on gear teeth but on close inspection of third photo I think we collectively agreed it was probably good to go for another +/- 500 miles ......maybe changing it out after Silver State....but please share your opinion on or off line after you view the photos. I have no additional long road trips planned....and the engine again pulled hard and made all the right sounds.
The last thing to finish out the punch list of actions was pulling the 160 thermostat and replacing it with a SPECIAL Robert Shaw 180 modified in Saudi (last photo) and adjusting shift linkage. That went equally smooth and compliments to Dick (from Art and Bill) on how much easier the thermosat was to get out and in.....with Dick Drenske's modified cooling system.....you will see a link and photos to the Robert Shaw thermostat that AJ shared with us last week in earlier email from AJ. With everything else done with the fuel injection Saturday and another road test today I should be good to go at SS in Sept.
At the same time I was trying to wrap up the Pantera I was also getting ready to pack and move back up north, spending allot of time on the phone on biz for this new project back in Bay Area and with the planned trip of departure on Thursday or Friday I sure appreciated Art and Bills can-do attitude to help me get it all done.....again, thanks guys.

Go here to view photos:

See the thermostat on the left, the one with the extra copper -hat- attached on the copper plug? THAT is what you want. If it doesn't have that extra piece or "hat" as we call it, then it's
-not- the
right thermostat for the Cleveland.
The part number I sent earlier for Summit Racing, is the one you want; 333-180
And then it's just a mess to change.
