Yes, taping the grille will help control temps.

I am guessing the tuner (Mike T?) would want well controlled and even temps.  I have no idea how the software is set up, but I would think there is some provision for warmup/temp variances.  ?

If it were my project, I would want everything gnat's ass spot on for the ORR runs and screw the rest.  Now, we are back to taping.
Now, taping works great.  I use it in winter to try to bring temps up (hiway driving at 32 degrees is a little different than going to the mall in summer, eh?) but every condition changes and then one must jump out and rip tape off, or apply a few more rows.  Kind of a funky thang to do in public when you are driving a nice purple Pantera.  do the chebbie driver have to do this?  do we care?

It would seem to be simple/easy to toss in the appropriate t'stat and go off tuning . . . . and this, indeed should be the case.  but it isn't.

I would think the level of tuning you seek will require careful control - so, no answers.  Wish I could be privvy to the thought process.

Let us know what happens! (and keep the duct tape handy)

Remember: I said not to mess w/ your ORR tune.
