JB,
Are you kidding me?

I had to remove the valve springs to replace the valve stem seals on my
engine a couple years ago:

No problems, no worries, done deal.

If you can't get this done with the heads on your car.... well, I better
not go that far since you -are- talking about -two- springs on each
valve. But that's where I draw the line.

Put the piston at TDC, lock it there with a prybar at the flywheel if
you can.
Pressurize the cylinder with constant air.
Compress the existing spring a few turns enough to take the pressure off.
Smack the retainer with a plastic/rubber hammer to break it loose from
the keepers. (I'm guessing this is your real problem.)
Compress the spring the rest of the way and remove the keepers.
Remove the spring and retainer.

Now... how to compress -two- springs I'm not sure, might depend on the
style of compressor you use.
Reverse the process but leave out the smacking with hammer part. :)

Step up man... you can do it, no more whining, get r' done.
