Steering Rack update,
Just for grins and giggles, I took both my existing rack and the new
rack to my buddy. He tried mine and couldn't budge it without a lot
of effort and grunting. He tried the new rack and sighed some
relief. He said -that's- how it's supposed to feel.

I thought it was too tight myself and mentioned if he thought it was
too tight it was easy to adjust with the locknut and adjusting
bolt. He said no, this new rack felt like other Corvette and Cobra
racks he was familiar with. He thought it was fine.

I brought it home and clamped the rack on a work table. I then used
a die-grinder in smooth strokes to take material off both sides of
the bosses. I then used a file to clean it up. The blocks now
appear to fit fine, though in reality they don't fit right up
against the tube, even on my old rack. Yea, that's something I had
to double check because the block fit fine between the bosses, but
not flat to the tube. Apparently the inside diameter of the blocks
is slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the tube. And as
you recall, the measured dimension on both racks was the same.

I then transferred the tie-rod ends, tightened them up at the proper
dimension recorded from the old rack, added a half pump of lube
(you'll recall I drilled these for grease fittings) and it's now
ready to install.

The one thing I'm looking to do before that though, is to try and
tighten up the collapsible column sleeve. I think it's just a bit
loose and could be contributing to the notchy feel.

On the carb, I picked up a 5-gallon can of carb clean and everything
is soaking right now. I'll agitate it over the next couple of days
and then pull stuff out, wash it down, blow it out and get ready for
the kit pieces.

Has everyone registered for the race?
