<div>Today, I took the plunge of hacking up my perfectly good (well not -perfectly- good, but you get the idea) firewall cover. Using the instructions provided by Jack DeRyke in the POCA newsletter, January 2006 edition, I cut the bubble out of my firewall cover. <gasp><br>
<br>Well, I -had- planned on keeping it in one piece for posterity, but being a bit cheap these days decided to go ahead and try for a two-piece. If I ever want to have a one piece again... I'll buy one later.<br><br>
It was -not- as easy as Jack made it out to be. In my case, I had to remove the entire surround trim that goes up one side, across the top and down the other side. There was no way for me to remove the vinyl at the top of the bubble without doing so. -That- is a pain in the ass job.<br>
<br>Once I got that off, the rest went pretty easy. I hope I got it cut in the right place, because it's a done deal now. I've not tried it in the car yet; it's after quitting time for today. I got the trim back on the main panel and tried to glue the vinyl wrapped on the backside. Tomorrow I'll wrap and glue the bubble, then try it all out for size.<br>
<br>I also drilled the shoulder bolt holes in the rear hoop of my cage.<br>I also picked up a 10" air cleaner from Napa, cheap, and will run it until I can get the proper sized/shaped one from K&N. Oh, and with that, Shelley and I put the deck lid on too.<br>

(not to mention the dogbone air cleaner which I honestly just don't like the looks of).<br>Option 1, offset base plate for the air filter, also the least expensive, and possibly can be sourced locally:<br>

Then, I'll begin work on turning my one-piece firewall cover into a two-piece firewall cover. I have no reason to believe that won't go well, so then the next item will be to get the roll cage rear hoop in place, drill the holes for the shoulder bolts (the stock attach point) and maybe bolt it in place. I say maybe because if I can get a friend to help fix the drivers side hoop connection holes, maybe I'll take it all in for powder coating and install the whole thing. I also need to look at sourcing some roll bar padding. I guess I better start looking that up now. :)<br>
