    Well.... it's no longer a simple intake manifold and oil pan change.<br>
    The original objective was to replace the stock cast iron intake
    with a Blue Thunder FPP 4145, and replace the stock baffled pan with
    an Armando gated and baffled pan.<br>
    <br>
    You may remember we started with this:<br>
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.teampanteraracing.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&view=gallery&Itemid=57&g2_itemId=5216">http://www.teampanteraracing.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&view=gallery&Itemid=57&g2_itemId=5216</a><br>
    <br>
    And I now have this:<br>
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.teampanteraracing.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&view=gallery&Itemid=57&g2_itemId=5268">http://www.teampanteraracing.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&view=gallery&Itemid=57&g2_itemId=5268</a><br>
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.teampanteraracing.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&view=gallery&Itemid=57&g2_itemId=5272">http://www.teampanteraracing.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&view=gallery&Itemid=57&g2_itemId=5272</a><br>
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.teampanteraracing.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&view=gallery&Itemid=57&g2_itemId=5275">http://www.teampanteraracing.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&view=gallery&Itemid=57&g2_itemId=5275</a><br>
    <br>
    Why?<br>
    Well, it all started with this spark plug from #5:<br>
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.teampanteraracing.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&view=gallery&Itemid=57&g2_itemId=5210">http://www.teampanteraracing.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&view=gallery&Itemid=57&g2_itemId=5210</a><br>
    <br>
    What's going on?  Well, only one way to really find out, so we found
    this:<br>
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.teampanteraracing.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&view=gallery&Itemid=57&g2_itemId=5278">http://www.teampanteraracing.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&view=gallery&Itemid=57&g2_itemId=5278</a><br>
    <br>
    While we're in there, we might as well look at other things, and....
    we found this....:<br>
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.teampanteraracing.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&view=gallery&Itemid=57&g2_itemId=5290">http://www.teampanteraracing.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&view=gallery&Itemid=57&g2_itemId=5290</a><br>
    <br>
    <insert any four letter words you feel appropriate to communicate
    my frustration level><br>
    <br>
    Sooooooooo..... <br>
    I'm in it now to get the crank polished, new bearings, new gaskets
    and seals, have the block tanked, brushed and blown... and I don't
    know what else at this point.  Oh and don't forget a refresh of the
    heads.<br>
    <br>
    I did run into another interesting problem.<br>
    I test fit the Armando pan before total dis-assembly.  Why?  Because
    I have this really cool MPG Windage Tray installed:<br>
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.teampanteraracing.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&view=gallery&Itemid=57&g2_itemId=5281">http://www.teampanteraracing.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&view=gallery&Itemid=57&g2_itemId=5281</a><br>
    <br>
    Unfortunately, it hangs up on the pan:<br>
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.teampanteraracing.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&view=gallery&Itemid=57&g2_itemId=5284">http://www.teampanteraracing.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&view=gallery&Itemid=57&g2_itemId=5284</a><br>
    The burnished area is where it's hitting.  Here is a shot of the
    pan:<br>
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.teampanteraracing.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&view=gallery&Itemid=57&g2_itemId=5287">http://www.teampanteraracing.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&view=gallery&Itemid=57&g2_itemId=5287</a><br>
    You can just make out a little oil on the edge of the scraper.  Now
    what?  I either don't use the MPG Windage tray, which I -really-
    like.  Or I need to hack off some of the scraper in the pan.
    Decisions, decisions.<br>
    <br>
    Of course, that's honestly the least of my worries currently.  After
    a $1,400 order to Summit racing today (for other things, like a
    radiator), I'm out of budget for a couple of months.  Going this
    deep into the engine was -not- in the plan.<br>
    <br>
    However, kudos to Steven Donegan who pushed me into it, otherwise I
    wouldn't have known about the bearings.  The pistons look fine, the
    cylinders look great (still have some crosshatch) and the rings look
    good.  I'll be doing parts cleaning for a while, taking the heads
    into my favorite cylinder head shop and finding a place to clean the
    block and polish the crank.<br>
