Good guys. We all know (or at least should know) the risks when driving at ORR events, but that doesn't stop our need for speed. You do your homework, you prepare your car, install all the safety equipment you can afford, and work up in the
speed classes until you've had enough. But at the end of the day, we all know something can happen and we end up upside-down in the dessert. The is no way to eliminate risk. has mis-ID'd others who were not even in the car with Rick & Merle....as Rick's son usually drove and his dad (Rick) usually navigated....Merle was a stand in which he has done as navigator many times.....Merle usually works Tech as did Rick.

I am pretty certain having been here when these accidents occur that words like

"excessive speed", 'lost control', 'massive injuries/fire/etc are all gonna be used....In Ricks case that Camaro was a beast....full race engine but it also had full cage and they had all the safety gear including head/neck/back restraints, fire suppression.....but its a simple lesson in physics too.
;-(

190+ on a crowned 2 lane road that like Nebras and Texas are no where close to being in good shape.....add the new centerline rumble strips that caused Moonshine's accident last year (he was in my race group) I think its noteworthy to say these kind of accidents are rare......but those rumble strips in center lane are little pockets where any road debris, bolts, nails etc can fall into.....also apexing across them on sweeper turns at 155-160 as I was and they shake/rattle the hell out of the car....everyone's car.....but as someone said....these are the course "conditions"......patches of road, dips, blind hills, canyon road, off camber turns....and all this on a crowned road.....so running on ragged edge its just a matter of time and luck to how long it takes you to either lose control or pick up someone's debris.....yea speed kills but so do allot of other things....speed is just a lot
faster.

Mad Dawg Antenucci
Team Pantera Racing

The 1st & still the only vintage race team in open road racing
www.teampanteraracing.com

From: Steve Hawkins <shawkins777@comcast.net>
To:
Cc: '{TPR}' <tpr@teampanteraracing.com>
Sent: Monday, September 19, 2011 3:00
