It's a time consuming, painstaking process. Your damn near done.
It's Friday night, no school and no work tomorrow, noise abatement
doesn't start till 2200. Give the wife a $50 and send her to the
mall. You'll be done by the time she gets back. If the neighbors
complain, give them a beer and tell them to chill out... it's
Friday.

If I was there, I'd be helping you. Yea... 322 lbs is -not- fun,
but you're getting it done.
I've got 4 done now (out of 16) I'm just looking for an

I'm looking for that magic tool at the end of the rainbow.

I guess that "why do you have the air compressor running

Are you kidding me?

I had to remove the valve springs to replace the valve
stem seals on my engine a couple years ago:

No problems, no worries, done deal.

If you can't get this done with the heads on your
car.... well, I better not go that far since you -are-
talking about -two- springs on each valve. But that's
where I draw the line.

Put the piston at TDC, lock it there with a prybar at
the flywheel if you can.
Pressurize the cylinder with constant air.
Compress the existing spring a few turns enough to
take the pressure off.
Smack the retainer with a plastic/rubber hammer to
break it loose from the keepers. (I'm guessing this
is your real problem.)
Compress the spring the rest of the way and remove the
keepers.
Remove the spring and retainer.

Now... how to compress -two- springs I'm not sure,
might depend on the style of compressor you use.
Reverse the process but leave out the smacking with
hammer part. :)

Step up man... you can do it, no more whining, get r'
done.
raise your hand if you have ever
successfully replaced your valve springs
with the engine/heads in the car..... I
hear crickets..... :) ....damn cooling

I gotta put the second valve springs in my
engine since it is now broken-in if there is
any hope of getting to NORC. I've tried the
old rope trick, any one of over 6 or 7 valve
spring compressors, etc. I'm now
pressurizing the cylinders in hopes of
keeping the valve up long enough to insert
the second spring.

I've tried the piston at TDC, but the coil
seems to bind before the valve touches the
piston. Does anyone know if you can
compress the valve spring enough with the
piston at TDC with closed-chamber heads (and
flat-top pistons) so you can remove the
keepers before the springs bind?
