Ethanol: gas lines:
Older cars, older gas lines: YES, IT'S EXTREMELY HARD on them. But mostly on higher percentages of ethanol.
Rusty / Compromise fuel tanks: ethanol is an extreme cleaner. It'll break the rust loose & clog the filter.....again & again!!!
Newer vehicles: fuel lines handle it fine. They also aren't old enough to have rusty tanks....& the ratio of the blend is pretty mild
Vehicles DESIGNED as dual fuel:
ZERO ISSUES, even at higher % of ethanol.
But they have a sticker telling you max% to use. (E85 for example)
I did some math a few years ago.
"What is the cost per mile of reg gas v/s gasohol??"
(Four tanks of fuel: 2 gasoline/ 2 reg gas)
My result on my dual fuel Yukon:
Gasohol price per gallon has to be '70%' of regular gas to equal cost per mile.
It's NEVER TRUE!!
BTW: dual fuel vehicles: factory ratings:
Mpg is based on gas.
HP is based on gasohol.

Thanks Asa. Not a subject I know jack about but believe I read that Ethanal in all the gas is tough on fuel lines and engines. Trade off?

You’ll see a third pump handle and hose at most gas stations in WA now. It’s blue and supposedly pumps ethanol free fuel at a premium price. Is it worth it? We’ve tried it and not seen any improvements in mileage or power. I’ll stick to the highest octane I can get.

Chris,
Methanol FREE?
Is that possible in Washington?
Am I mistaken that all gas sold had Methanol?

Asa, keep the car as long as you want. Also I only use methanol free fuel, but it’s only 89 octane.
