[TPR] ON STAR of OFF STAR???? Shared from Laurie

At one point in time I got a real estate license, mostly for interest sake. Was married to an industrial broker at the time and thought it'd be good information to learn all involved. I did sell one house but didn't continue (with real estate or the marriage) as I was also special ed. teaching at the same time.  Here's how this applies to the Thomas Guides.  I'd enlarge the pages that covered my areas, laminated them, and would draw with dry erase markers, the route I needed each time.  So I could map each destination and then wipe off and reuse over and over.  I appreciated myself for my own useful idea. : )  Now, like most everyone, I use my phone and the instructions are mostly okay EXCEPTING the lady routinely tells me AFTER I've already passed the point for her instruction.  I need to change to the English guy my sister 'n law uses and see if he's a better navigator while working on my English accent.  : )

Great story….and when I heard about those AAA custom tour books where all you had to do is give them your proposed route and you got back all that detailed info. I wonder if AAA still provides those detailed maps?I am such a bobo because I am certain I loved them but also pretty certain ai never used them as it would have been out of character for MD…maybe Dennis did.

I never saw a Thomas map.  In far Upper NY, maps were all Rand McNally.  (He lived near there)Or Dad's AAA Tour books!!  He had a drawer full!!!

We purchased a used Jeep Grand Cherokee back in the 2000’s.  No on-star, private sale.
We started getting the recall notices to our name and address.  I believe Ford was pulling registration information from the state.

I do not subscribe to On Star services, never did.But I get those reports anyway.
Guess I'll ck & see what it takes to Turn OFF On-Star completely. As I said: I was NEVER a paying customer.Yet I get reports....so there's some hidden communication!!

Although our younger society of engineers and graduates preach about environmental sustainability, but the Cars produced today seem to last much longer if driven, but when they are done, they are throw aways, just like most anything else produced today. All we can do is put up with them as long as we can and throw them away and hope their tracking devices will create the data of waste.

Thanks for sharing again. A Good reminder Laurie thst these electronics do not last long in heat and Socal is hot… as amazing as the electronics are in the new cars it is a reminder your mechanicals will probably outlast the electronics.

If JB doesn't know the answer to your question or is traveling  I am sure ASA does know. And so will your extended warranty!

Dennis who still hasn’t figured out half the electronics on the C8.

Haha

Still some disadvantages with older cars.  Two days ago my hybrid Lincoln MKZ had warning light on that Anti-lock brake system on.. and brake warning light too.  When trying to stop it really wasn't responsive and took much longer to stop.  Turned off and on and gone.  But next time starting happened again.  Good thing I have an extended warranty but we'll see how that goes. Anyone electronically skilled know why that would occur?  Only 41k miles on that car although it's a 2012.

No surprises there. No doubt evidence would be used to deny claims.

One more reason to keep the Pantera or any old car.

JB, as our resident team expert on electronics  did you go back to points and condenser on your yella beast?

And is the MSD ignition a transmitter?
