Here is my Pantera mini Aero workshop course;
That Cow Catcher air dam keeps the air from getting under the front end. The Side skirts keeps the vacuum created by the air dam going thru to the rear to also keep the rear sucked down. A maximum 7 degree rack angle also helps by expanding the the air to keep the rear down-force, hence the 7 degree rear diffusers you often see many cars today. A wing under the car creates a venturi effect of an additional low pressure zone under the car. I would run one or two venturi wings under the Pantera creating a calculated 4400-4700 pounds of downforce at only 85 MPH. Doing this with no other changes to my Pantera out at Pahrump, a 2.6 mile, 9 turn road course, I took 6 seconds off my 1:54 lap time by removing or installing just the side skirts. My Pantera would get sucked down so hard and far that at 140 down the straights I would be clearing (grinding off my directional tabs) at the rear frame crossmember that the rear sway bar mounts to, by less than an inch. I didn’t do the downforce calculations, but it would be a huge scary number, so for extended open road speeds, if you can take care of the front end, at that speed, the rear end will take care of itself, unless you get air under the front end. That’s where the center Venturi wing and that rear spade NASCAR type flow inhibitor spoiler that you gave me off your burned Pantera comes into the rear Anti-Lift equation and balance. If you look head on at a F1 car, it’s all about flowing the air through the car, with multiple wings and venturi’s inside the wheels managing the air flow around the tires and cockpit. It is all about air flow management to create downforce without increasing drag.

I never noticed any benefit to side skirts. But that may explain why my 550 HP little stroker did not go 200 MPH and yours did with 400 HP. That cow catching air damn slowed me down 30 MPH.

Did I see side Skirts on The Dawg Pantera? They looked relatively half shortened, gaping open to the road surface.
The skirts gave me too much down force and too much negative camber at speed with too much inside tire temperature. For SSC speed runs, I took the skirts off, offering less drag, 10.2 MPG at 150 average, 4400 rpm, cruising speed, and capable of 200+ MPH with 3:20 gears and a stockish 400 HP Cleveland. (no strokers here).

I did the same road testing with my aero mods on the OC toll road near my home in Huntington Beach back when it first opened and there was no using it at 6 am on a weekend. Of course it did not replicate the high desert on the H-318 but still Dick Drenske and I went out and we ran between two on- ramps to check trafficband then he sat on one gave me the okay signal via radio to run the Pantera. From that yesterday run we added some mods to Hall Pantera’s air damn which at speed was a huge improvement at speed (above 150). That was Second best improvement after adding positive caster to the front suspension. More so going to 7+ on Woods A arms.

I tested on a nearby stretch of Nevada highway early on Sunday Mornings, when the NHP are still sleepy.
I had a fellow Red Pantera Owner who restored his Pantera and used my Painter to paint his Pantera Red just like mine. He said that the first 4 times he went across that highway stretch that he was pulled over, and had to explain that you don’t want this Red Pantera, you want the Red Pantera from the other side of the Valley, The One You Can’t Catch.

Larry,
You’ve come up with innovative modifications to go fast and improve aero at speed.
Not to scare Cory and Chris or any other potential rookies in these horror stories we are sharing like comparing old scars everyone remember to run Touring or even Grand Touring as long as your head is in the game its like a Sunday drive. One to be enjoyed.

I have always had an eye for Air Management under the car to keep as much original appearance as possible. Since I’m on the 6’2” large size, I had dropped floor pans installed, and since we were set up at the lower designed ride height, I drug my butt a lot. So, I installed our own plastic skid pads and we protect the seat mounting bolts with our design of a short ¼” thick U channel to drill and tap that we mount the seats in with. This short ¼” deep channel for seat bolt threads became solid filled with the concrete from the Bridge. I don’t think we had an inch between our butt cheeks and hard concrete impacting at 155MPH. The concrete is probably still there imbedded into the seat rails.

Haha Larry….yea JB and I were there running with ya at the Pony Express…so what 4-points did you have a problem with? I mean besides the lack of Brazilian Girls at Battle Mountain.

We installed an intercom, since to yell at each other, I had to slow to under 140, and when you realize how far you travel at that speed we change zip codes to write a short note of “What was that?”
Can’t here the road noise at that speed, that’s all behind you, it’s just the wind noise coming at you that you hear. When your airborne, it’s still just the wind, but with a little horizon attitude amplification, and then the camera goes to snow upon the 14 point landing impact, that’s how we knew we stuck the landing. Oh yeah, the 14 points were, 4 tires and 10 hard chassis points including 4 of the underside of our seat rails where the concrete was imbedded into the U-Channel seat fastening rails. You tend to feel those 4 points much more than the others.

Love to see videos if you find them.
At high speed, it gets pretty noisy in car.
Airborne: everything gets QUIET!!!
Only for a second or two!!!!
Very few would understand what is happening!!!
At speed, it could be just an inch, but distance traveled can be kinda wild!!!

These SSC 200 MPH video’s are sparking a flame under me, sorry I’ve been so quite, but I’ve been under the weather after visiting my Daughter in Denver a week ago. I haven’t had a cold since January of 2020. But, After viewing these 200MPH video’s, I should figure out where my in-car Video’s went and try to figure out how to post them. Two come to mind, of course when we pulled up on the K&N Hennessy Viper at 202MPH, (I was radared unofficially at 194 while going away) and when we went airborne at 155 at the bridge crossing at the Pont Express.

Jim may have been in the 250 mph range. Long straight, slight downhill. Known to be a smooth section.
