Love reading that Dave…you did 200+ in your old M&M race car so your opinion on TPR always appreciated.
There is so much happening up at elevation at Silver State. Add in all the other factors like wind and temp etc. And a 50 year old car with 500 HP
Art Stephens and I both used Russ Fulps to build our stroker engines…he build his stroker engine with a higher 3.77 ring gear and taller (.655?) 5th gear OD like mine and and down at sea level on the OC toll road we both maxed out at 183 at WOT with similar 830cfm carbs with no air damn or ground affects. Up on course at Silver State with some ground affects the most I could tab out in max speed was 177 or about 6 mph slower. That was with the big cow catcher air dam teched for 180 in Super Sport division. 200 Mph? No where even close to 200.
Larry believed he did 200 MPH with a similar stroker as Art and I but he added many more aero mods to bottom of his Pantera. And a gurney lift on ass end…actually my old one off the burnt up Pantera!
🫣
So debate or conversation continues on 200 MPH at Silver State in a Pantera. junior averaged 177 (?) with a race built 429ci. I recall that engine made 650 RWHP…and he said he could not tap out more then 185….it was not the later tube framed pantera (replica?) like the later race pantera he crashed in 1987 when we were in Ely together. Only pantera thing about thst beast was his sugar scoop in back.
My happy-place in my pantera since 2013 has been a 140-145 average. This year it may be less! Much less.
Haha
Keep the 200 MPH conversation alive! Someone with a TURBO in a pantera is gonna hit 200. Waiting for that to happen.
MD, blind, death, and still thinking he is living forever!
Ps ordering 200 MPH wheels and tires this month!

Ethanol / Carburetors: they have LOTS of seals gaskets. Mostly designed 20 years before ethanol used 'on the street'!!!
Very Wise to avoid!!
Joel Hannig ran pure alcohol. Used a FIFTY GALLON fuel cell because it used sooo much!!
I ran 1,350 degrees on pyrometer in M&M car. & got 3.5 mpg & could make one run on 20 gallon tank.
Joel probably got 1.5 - 2 mpg.
Jetting for fuel type, just as big as altitude.....or even more soo!!!

I use ethanol free in anything with a carburetor. An Ethanol engine needs nearly twice the fuel flow as a gasoline engine, so as a rule of thumb, 10% ethanol will lean out the fuel burn about 5%, or you should put bigger fuel jets in to compensate.

You’ll see a third pump handle and hose at most gas stations in WA now. It’s blue and supposedly pumps ethanol free fuel at a premium price. Is it worth it? We’ve tried it and not seen any improvements in mileage or power. I’ll stick to the highest octane I can get.

Methanol FREE?
Is that possible in Washington?
Am I mistaken that all gas sold had Methanol?

Asa, keep the car as long as you want. Also I only use methanol free fuel, but it’s only 89 octane.
