I can barely get in the car as it is. Perhaps I should just wear bubble wrap.

For what it's worth, the A pillar may support 2.5 times the weight of the car at rest, based on the following from GM Authority
“We designed the windshield pillars to hold 2.25 times the weight of the entire car. So you can turn the car upside down, and you can put another car on top of that, and still have room to spare,” Juechter said. “So it’s essentially a super strong roll bar,” he added, referring to the A-pillars. AT REST!!!
The forces generated in a collision will certainly way exceed the stregnth of the A pillars. As the speed doubles the impact forces go up by a factor of 4 times.
At least get a roll bar.

The info I have was from the old days. Somebody got ahold of some data or studies from GM about that roll over protection. (I had heard)
What-ever it was, it was held in High regard by the race group. It, & safe outcomes from several ORR crashes, cemented the understanding that the C5 - C7's coupes were UBER safe.
(Solid roofs & Removeable roof were the same)
The roll over protection of the windshield structure, plus the roof bow above & behind your head: I NEVER heard of it being crushed down more than an INCH!!!
The C8 is a whole new model. The weight of the car is about equal. So I'd have NO PROBLEM thinking the rigidity & strength are equal.
Air bags are equal or even better.
GM safety tests are probably what somebody got ahold of!!!
But I never heard what it was, I just went with the flow!!
I also haven't heard of auto body info from C8 repairs. Work they'd done due to crashes!! Or work they DIDN'T have to do because of roof / chassis strength.
I'm not sure if ORR groups might just go with Old rules, until they are proven different!!!
We always heard the European cars were limited to 140 class because they'd 'Crush Like a Pop Can'!!!!
But I never heard what drove that rule. It would seem normal street or repair shop data would drive that.
Over & over I heard about seemingly mild crashes, where a European Coupe car....now had a wrinkle in the roof!! NOT A GOOD SIGN!!!

Mr President,
You think adding a roll bar is a good idea?
I do too….it’s a GREAT idea….Mark already is planning to add one to his future C8.
I already have the answer for the C8 that already applies to C7’s and Vipers and others and that is what I am going with.
GM provided position to NASA (North American Racing Association) and if it’s good enough for NASA it’s good enough for me but that’s just my personal opinion. 🙂
And let me confirm again Mr President there is no as in zero roll over protection on the “Pantera”…we do agree on that….. As I said already the rules dictate that for a PANTERA you need a roll bar if you want to run in the Grand Touring Division.
Think it is an excellent rule.
Good Times

Just a quick Internet search showed up a forum posting that indicated only the C8R has factory rollover protection for most track style events, not much on details though. Then I found a few high end vendors making roll bars and cages. My guess is you’ll need to install something if you want to go faster.

Brotha Dave,
You know more Corvette racers then I do but it appears I am the FIRST to ask this “integrated roll protection on C8’s or Z06’s.
I have asked the SSCC message board and no replies yet…/also posted two requests to Corvette Forum and no response from any open road racers and Frank/SSCC says he doesn’t know of any C8 or Z06 roll over protection.
Can you check with any of any of your peeps to see if anyone knows or knows who would know at Corvette
Thanks

No reason to….for several years they have been running C7’s etc in Grand Touring with NO roll bar.
Will see if anyone eventually answers SS message board or Corvette Blog…so far nothing

You should check last years results and maybe year before. See what speeds the C8’s were running and try to make direct contact.

Thanks Asa….I just posted to Corvette Forum and specifically asked what spec has allowed earlier C7’s etc to allow not adding a aftermarket “roll bar”.
And I added just saying the C8 does have an integrated bar (s) for Driver and passenger is NOT enough.
It would appear I am the first person with a C8 to ask Frank at SS this question and no reply from my message board question either.
HEY, we are doing some ground breaking here😂😂
But if there is no spec evidence from a sanctioning GM authority I will be happy not to run faster then a 140

I got nuthin’ unless it’s in the owners manual. It would only make sense if they are promoting it for track use that it has a factory rollover system, but….
Validation is the key. Best to check out any C8 forums and hope for the best.

Hey Team,
A response from SSCC Race Director (Frank McKinnon) on rule changes.
Looks like another year with SA2015 helmet…..note his comment on belts and expiration of belts…
And I will check with Corvette Blog and Vegas Club guys if the C8 has an integrated bar.

hey, the helmet will be SA 2015 or newer.
your car needs proof it has a bar
in it.
i have not found it for c8 as yet
perhaps you have.. if so please share it with me.
seat belts will expire on dec 31 of the expiration year written on the belts tag.

Hi Frank,
A couple questions on rule book….
1. For my Pantera team any new rules being added to 2023 like helmets??
2. I plan to bring my C8. I assume like the other late model C7’s and Vipers I do ‘not’ need a roll bar for Grand Touring.
Thanks…. and hope to see you up at PIR in the Spring.
