[TPR] Happy New Year

Sorry to hear about Paul but very glad it's been minor for him and he's
recovering.

My niece, who works at a Veterans home in Spokane, got it when they had
an outbreak there middle of last year.  She was home with a few cold
symptoms plus loss of smell.  She was back to work in two weeks and
she's been fine since.  A young guy at work and his wife got it last
year, minor flu symptoms, never got tested, recovered after a few days.
They only found out it was Covid because they had a trip scheduled to
Alaska and the airline mandated they get tested. They both tested
positive; this a couple weeks after their symptoms had totally disappeared.

Their doctor said because they've had it, and depending on the test,
they could continue testing positive for up to three months. They're
both fine and moving to Raleigh from Spokane.

Another co-worker in his 60's got it a few weeks ago.  Pretty much
normal flu symptoms plus difficulty breathing.  He got tested, but
didn't get bad enough to be hospitalized.  He took over-the-counter meds
and kicked it in about four days.  The big thing he did was stay
-vertical- the entire time.  He said if he laid down, he could feel the
congestion in his lungs get worse.  By staying upright, he was able to
breath fine and recovered.

Others not so lucky.  A sophomore at Sam's school, who had Asthma, died
a month or so ago; they believe from Covid.  Her Asthma got really bad
and she couldn't recover.

The Dad of one of Sam's friends died just a few weeks ago. A guy
probably in his late 40's, or early 50's.  I'm not sure the wife has let
anyone know for certain, but I do think she said he had a heart attack;
don't know if it was related to Covid or not.

In Spokane, we've had about 300 deaths or so.  The local mortality rate
is 1.4%, of those known infected (not just hospitalized0.  Yea, that's
pretty high compared to the flu.  Hospitalizations are averaging about
100 with Covid.  Plenty more who've tested positive but will recover at
home.  The highest risk group are those in their 70's and up.  The
highest number of deaths in our area have happened to people in their
70's, then 80s, then 90's, then 60's, etc.

Make no mistake, there -are- people dying from it.  But if we know the
risk factors, the comorbidities and things like that, why keep the
nation in lockdown?

On the brighter side,  Shelley's birthday was yesterday, and we took her
to a restaurant in Idaho.  They're still open don't ya know.  :) Wear a
mask into the place, be seated, take the mask off and enjoy dinner.
Funny how places that still have restaurants open can't seem to tie any
outbreaks to the restaurants.  At least not in great numbers.  And of
anyplace, a restaurant is probably one of the cleaner places you could go.

Stay healthy my friends.  Take appropriate precautions and still have fun.
