Yo My Peeps,
Here is one more reason I don’t brag about crossing the finish line on fire. 
Some of of you know of him as Crazy Dave 3 (CD3) but most of you have never met him or even know of him except as a fellow ORR Veteran who ran Unlimited for many years. He’s been a friend for many years ever since he borrowed racer tape from me at Pre-grid which is another story😂
The story and photos below will give you some appreciation of just how crazy CD3 is or used to be when he was younger. Dave is the real deal...a legend if you will.
As the saying goes a good friend will drink and fight for you but a better friend will go to jail with you.... and that is the kind of guy CD3 is. 
Yea trying to get him back to SORC, BBORR  OR SSCC. In either case the next time I am in Colorado I will be eating his food and drinking his beer because that is also what good friends share.😉

OMG…..all these years……I NEVER put two & two together!!!YOU & I……are likely the Only two in ORR…..to be on fire as we crossed the finish line!!!!!YOURS was legendary!!!BBORR 2008: I had an engine bay fire developing for last 20 miles….& the heat was right in front of me!!!!!  I even slowed to 170 for most of that…..to try ( in vain ) to keep the heat off & try to last!!!   It got soo hot it was bubbling paint off center of dash in front of me!!  Three gauges started to melt & droop out of their sockets!!   I normally ran 6 psi gas pressure.  Circuits were shorting out…..& I kept switching one fuel pump to another…..just to maintain 3 PSI!!  ( I had two systems)I told Dan Stoltenberg to stop reading me course notes.  I wasn’t soo fast to really need them!!“Keep telling me How Far to the finish line!!’He asked why!!??I said: “I have no idea when I might have to shut this car down…..& at this speed….I can make it coast 3 miles if I have too!!”When he finally said we were four miles out, I decided to give it all she had!!  We crossed the finish line @ 196 mph!!  Engine was sounding awful…..but we made it!!!I let off…..& within 50 yards it was sputtering & DEAD!!!   I shut everything down, put it in neutral, the fire….died with the engine!! I told Dan to start unbuckling while we were still above 150 mph!!  I knew with his handicapped hand he would take longer than me!!We went past the police a little over 100 mph…….& We coasted ALL the way to Zero Stone Park……& pushed on the brakes to stop from 5 mph……right exactly at rear bumper of my trailer!!!!Dan & I got out HOOTING & Hollering!!!!!!We made it!!!A few minutes later…..we found out Charlie had shut down mid course for an oil pressure problem!!   When I got home we found out what happened!!  A header pipe had blown out right in front of my knees!!! ( fatigued after getting red hot soo many times.)  Those pipes wrapped behind the engine.  The hole was bigger than a football where heat was melting thru the first firewall….& was shorting out the wiring &  burning anything it could!!  When the engine failed all together…..the heat had gotten soo bad going thru the transmission tunnel…..it was melting all the wire insulation & burning!!   Final failure…..it melted thru the main starter cables behind the transmission & shorted out the battery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   For my efforts….I got this!!!Would I do it again….HECK YES!!!My day was NOT legendary like yours…..but similar to yours…..it was a moment to remember!!!   Biden said: “ 8 years of Trump will alter the Nation!!” THAT’s what we’re hoping for!!!
