[TPR] BOBBY BYERS PASSING

Why yes he did, 1991 SSCC Unlimited Class, '73 Pantera, and came in 3rd.  He'd probably be mad at me from heaven but once upon a time a bunch of us were at CA Speedway in Fontana for some event.  He was in his Cobra and I was in my stock, automatic Vette, and messing around in our cars. Surprisingly I beat him in a short street race outside the Racetrack. Don't know what happened but my Vette must have gotten a good shot of adrenaline.  When I was already slowing down, I looked at the speedo and I was still in the 130's.  Maybe he was just trying to be nice... although I did hear him say he changed his engine after that. : )  He was a great guy and too young and full of life to be gone...but we all have to deal with what's handed to us and I pray he's in a better place!  It's a good time to remind ourselves to enjoy every second while we are able!  And it is BYARS for God's Sakes!  I'll try to find out if there's a service or celebration of life gathering.Bye Bye to Bobbie,Sad Laurie

Laurie passed on the sad news that Bobby Byers who was a long tine racer and builder with his brother Donny passed away this last week.

Donny did the overwhelming majority of assembling my Pantera after my fire in ‘99 and had not been well for some time.

I  Don’t know the details but like Dick Drenske he also lost the battle with Leukemia. 

Sad to share this news but I know many of you knew Bobby. 

Laurie will share more when she has additional details. While I know Bobby raced Panteras on several race tracks not sure if he ever ran at Silver State in the Burgundy Express. Of course if you have Laurie’s TPR book handy you will know if he did or not. 😜
