Sorry John,
The rulebook may not say anything, but the award criteria published on line since 2008 does...

Everyone please read the published criteria for the awards.

I think everyone put in a great effort, no question about it:
Gerry managed more engine work, installed new race harnesses, rebuilt brake system AND had to have his car rebuilt after someone hit it and pushed the left rear  fender and bumper into the ZF.  All that and he still made the race but broke down at start.

Mark had his engine out once again, found broken rocker arms, cracked pistons and other things requiring another refresh/rebuild.  He drove all the way from Connecticut and nearly didn't pass tech for having a SORC license plate (they eventually let him pass with it).  Like many racers though, Mark has no place to test high speed runs.  Mark had to shut down about 25 miles into the course due to fuel problems. The Pantera runs great under 80 mph, but not so well above.

Mad Dawg was pretty much ready after having experts check things out on his Pantera.  The only outstanding question was about oil temps, so we made sure the right sending units went to the right gauges and he ran the race, completing it.  Yes, his trailer lost a hub as it was being taken the long way around to the finish but didn't delay or put running the race in jeopardy.  Yes it needed to be fixed before going home, but that didn't interfere with running the race.

JB had to pull a ZF and extract a broken bolt in order to install a starter.  He had to do mode testing and tuning to be ready.  He borrowed a friend's trailer and blew a tire on his way to  the race, changed it and made it.  That was a hardship that could have jeopardized his participation.  He passed tech (like everyone else), ran the race, and even placed Second in the 120 mph class.

All four Pantera drivers worked hard to be ready, yes, but only one faced additional hardship on the way to the race, overcame that hardship, raced, finished, and even won a trophy.  THAT person is who should get (in my opinion) the Iron Man award.

The idea behind a reward is to recognize extraordinary accomplishments.  After all, SSCC doesn't give everyone who "entered" a participation medal; only those who actually finish the race.  Giving everyone an Iron Man award is like handing out participation trophies and cheapens the actual struggle needed to achieve it.

I humbly disagree and believe only one recipient should get the Iron Man award.

But I'm not the dictator for life, I'm only the President this year and I'm not really sure if that wasn't passed to Rowdy.  We mustn't forget our TPR Central division  buddies in all this either.

My vote would be this way:
Iron Man - JB for the reasons stated above
Gary Hall - Gerry, for using new technologies (though failed) in his pursuit
SOBill - Dave Doddek (sp) for all his efforts in helping Gerry

Nominations and voting should be completed by September 30.
