Sorry.. didn't mean Bishop... meant Barstow.  doh!   But that was just part of the story.  The rest was the finishing touch of why I the race part was the most peaceful period of this entire journey for me.  Once Arlan and I had the truck and Pantera safely tied down, it was already dark.  Here we were, en route to Ely, on top of some foresty mountain, suddenly, Arlan tells me we're out of gas. What????  The road was far too narrow to remove the Pantera and there were no lights, no ways to reach anyone, nothing much to do except use my non teacher language.  Then Arly noticed a road sign that said something like 25 miles downhill with an downfacing arrow. So we rolled, w/o gas, all the way to Ely, amazingly landed near a gas station. Some high school boys were hanging out there at the station and noticed a baby hawk or some type lovely creature was spread wing (dead) stuck on the front of the Penske.  They told me, "Didn't you know, whatever you kill in Ely, you have to eat?"  I was mortified but instead they decided to play catch with it.  Now very very late.... I had maybe an hour or two of sleep and off to race.  Definitely an eventful trip!  Can't wait to see how much fun this one will be.   : )

So I had to drive the Bro. back to Bishop in my car to get a hose and wait while he fixed it.  Steve called to check on our whereabouts as we were already expected.  We proceed.  About a couple hours more and Arlan has a flat tire.  Had to take him to find a tire and replace bad one. Did you ever think the Pantera would be the support vehicle?  Me either.  So poor Steve keeps calling to see what's going on.  We continue en route.  Last call from Steve, he says he's in the ER.  Evidently this was his birthday and he had rented a Ferrari for a special treat for himself.  Only problem, something failed and the Ferrari was totaled and Steve had a concussion and was unable to do go anywhere and of course not the race. He stayed back at his hotel waiting for his wife to pick him up for home. We picked up the truck keys, and he so generously offered me the use of his GPS.  Poor Steve!  Thus we remained friends and corresponded from time to time and since we will be attending a ceremony for him... I'll share where he listed all the cars he's owned and planes he flew.

Well, I have had, in time order, 

1965 Plymouth Valiant 4 door (I ended up putting a Mondello racing engine and 4 speed in it)

1967 Mustang fastback, 427 MR, dual quads

1965 Mustang 289 

1972 Chevy Luv truck :-)

1972 Mustang 351C 4BBL

1985 Mustang GT (still have it, supercharged, not street legal)

1998 Chevy Z28, LS1, 6 speed

2007 Nissan Z roadster

2011 Nissan Z coupe - track model

I did have a 1965 GTO for a short period, 389 tri-power, but a piece of junk :-)

I rented a Fiat 500 one time - fun little car! Handles very well and the engine is not badly matched to the weight - I think the ABARTH models add 25 HP or so?

I am currently working at putting on a sponsored car show for Nissan/Datsun vehicles - the details are not yet solid but it will likely be at Stadium Nissan near Angel Stadium on the 29th of August.

Small airplanes flown were Cessna 150, 152, Aerobat, 172, 182 - Piper Archer, Arrow, Turbo Arrow. And just once a Cessna Citation at 20,000 ft :-)
