[TPR] Progress today on the Mach I

Sam and I got over to the shop today to do more work on the Mach I. We
got the passenger side front suspension out and found a nasty bit of
rust. It's looking like I may have to replace the entire inner fender
with shock tower. That's a $700 item, without any labor to cut the old
one out and weld the new one in. It'll be quite the job.

We also took apart all the rear brakes and removed the passenger side
axle. The driver side axle is stuck good and we can't get it
extracted. I may need to rent an axle puller. It appears the outer
bearing is rusted to the differential housing tube. <sigh>

We also got the rotisserie mounted today. Currently it's bottom-heavy.
This may be due to the rear diff and the gas tank still in. Once we get
those out we'll see how she turns. If still too bottom heavy, we'll
adjust the rotisserie pivot point down one hole. We have the holes
drilled every four inches, which may be a bit too much. I later learned
most are drilled at three inches. Oh well.

The cool part is, it's on a freakin' rotisserie!

Sam was great help today, mostly fetching tools, but I did have him
remove the front grille and hood latch support from the radiator
support. I think there will be more for him to do once we start
assembling things. Taking things apart is ugly, difficult and requires
a lot more strength. Putting clean parts on a clean car will be more
fun and I can work behind him to make sure nuts and bolts are tight.

I seriously doubt I'll get the bodywork done and the car assembled
enough for SSCC the year, but we'll be pressing on as much as we can.

Dan Jones please email me. I don't think my personal emails are getting
through. I may call you Monday if I think about it.

Dang that C6 transmission is heavy. I've had to keep moving it out of
my way. Today we really move it out of my way, so that it shouldn't be
getting in my way anymore. :)

Next step is getting the gas tank and rear diff out. Then it's rotate
the car and take the headliner out; the last bit of nasty mouse house left.

Go Team Pantera and Other Ford Powered Racing!
