[TPR] Gas shocks

My gas shocks lift the deck lid so high that it has chipped paint on left corner. Painter and I together re-adjusted deck lid back as far as it would go without messing up alignment....and of course soon as We re-opened the decklid it again shaved off some paint - sheeeeeeit!

So he McGuivered it with a cable stop on lifts so now the deck lid only opens 3/4 of the way up.

This question is more to you PETER since you had a paint shop.... painter suggested pulling decklid and shaving just enough metal off the area to stop that problem but looking for an easier FIX and wondering if these after market shocks that venders sell is the problem 

Now I have to say these came from wilkinson and are marked as "detonato" blah blah....haha

Yea I know they are not what originally came on the car but wondering if any of you have heard of this problem in the past.
