Both Mike Cook, Junior Wilson and Bobby Byers all made similar mods to bottom of the car..

$$$$$ Does that mean that they all sealed the bottom of the engine bay??

.I added two different side skirts....1st heavy industrial belt rubber (too much deflection) and forget the material we used next but it a semi hard plastic and that seemed to help some..

$$$$$ Right.

.the biggest improvements came from "front-end mods (cow catcher) and opening up the hood with the decklid that Mark now has...all to decrease lift... felt some seat of the pants improvements

$$$$$ That jibes with the limited wind tunnel testing (front end gets lighter and sooner than the rear ) and decades of street and track usage.

but the most improvement just came from modified Feont A arms for more caster...that was huge improvement.

$$$$$ I agree. Neither of my Panteras have front spoilers and both have been north of 125 decades ago and they were very light and nervous. The biggest improvements were positive four to five degrees caster and PPCs Koni shocks and springs with double and more the stock spring rates.

Also race decals on the sides of the pantera😉

$$$$$ Indubitably. One cannot argue with metaphysics

                    Warmest regards, Chuck Engles

So……no mention of sealing the rear of the Pantera under the engine bay? …..or was that included in the Diffuser technique??

Mike Drew introduced me to Brock Yates many years ago who had many suggestions on how to improve aerodynamics on the Pantera to get to that elusive 200 MPH.

Yes adding the diffuser was one of Brock's suggestions and the other was a rear spoiler running straight off the back of the deck lid 12-18"

Running 140-175 speeds on a 2-lane road is so f'ing insane. I honestly was afraid to do anything that would make it seem easier to go faster.

Chuck,

I've smoothed the bottom somewhat. It's a start. Will let you know how things perform.

Dear Dennis,

I just read Bob Riley’s biographical book: The Art of Race Car Design. I highly recommend it. Among other things, he would often improve the downforce on various racing cars with the simple expedient of a flat piece of sheet metal that sealed and smoothed the airflow beneath the car. (He also created much more effective and complicated under body shapes that improve downforce).

Back in your salad days with the Brazilian Bikini Team and various ORR wins in the high speed classes, I recall that you did have some aero mods on your Pantera. Did you have the underside sealed and smoothed?
