</div>Sorry I've been working and travelling too much to take the time to put all my thoughts down.
But, I want to address a couple of things that were brought up:
If I recall correctly the September 1990 event had about 120 participants. So adding the May event in 1991 had nothing to to with overcrowding of the event. It had to do with capitalizing on the growing interest at the time and that people were lamenting that they had built cars they could only run once a year.
I can't imagine having only 1 event per year making things any cheaper. Every business has certain fixed costs that can only be minimized by spreading them out over as many customers as possible.
I am unconvinced that lowering the entry fee (unless it was halved) would make a significant impact as the largest expense is the travel and time away from work.
Yes, the rookies can be allowed to start above the touring class with the right qualifications. This is where I think partnering with groups like Hooked On Driving would be extremely beneficial.

Don't
wait...remember none of the board still
run.Secondly, address making it easier for
rookies to bypass Vegas...or can they do that
now Costs have soared. I personally don't
have time anymore to prep my old Pantera for more then one
ORR...but if reducing the series to one event would show
even a small decrease in cost I think it would or could make
a difference

Happy
Monday gentlemen,

It's
great that we're all thinking about ways to keep SSCC
going for the long haul. I did not know the second event
was added due to the first one being so booked...
interesting. Even though I like running twice a year, I
can certainly understand the economics of doing just one.

My idea
is very similar to Tom's and revolves around the
marketing of the event. My thought was to put together a
somewhat canned package that could be used in multiple
venues: car shows, track days under a pop-up tent, club
meetings, etc. Packages would be distributed to a handful
of dedicated ORR'ers that want to tell others about the
event. The package would be the same for everyone so a
consistent message went out everywhere. A Pantera owner at
a car show in St. Louis gets the same message as a Hellcat
owner in Oregon.

Sample
Package:
2
DVDs: 1 continuous loop for background at a meeting or
show booth, etc. and 1 with 3 to 5 minute professional
looking presentation (maybe longer). PowerPoint
Presentation on a thumb drive (provides a little more detail
than the 2nd DVD)Flyers:
Simple, yet professional glossy with contact info on one
side and race info on the other side (links to videos,
website)Estimated
cost & FAQ sheet (could be part of flyer): Breakdown
of estimated first time costs, FAQs and possibly coupon for
1st time racer discount or club discount. Club example -
bring six 1st time club cars and the 7th 1st timer entry is
free? Instant team for Team Challenge
I have
other ideas as well, but I'm somewhat waiting for the
dust to settle after Gail's announcement to see if the
Board calls a meeting with the Associate Board to discuss
moving forward. Clock's ticking...

Hi Dennis,

You're
right on the money. Eric Pettersen and I have been
lobbying the board for two years now to reach out with a
specific co-marketing proposal to track day organizations
like Hooked On Driving and like Track Masters. Their
members have the exact profile that fits perfectly with SSCC
events: guys with really nice cars, not race cars, just
great street cars, who want to experience more of the
exciting potential of their cars. We proposed that these
track day organizations could pre-qualify entrants to
by-pass the SSCC Qualifying School, offer reduced entry fees
to highly-qualified contestants, and even allow advanced
drivers to jump past the 110 class to the 125 class (140
tech) on their first run. In return, SSCC could award a
few free entries to the track day events. The track day
organizations are growing, while SSCC is not, so this seems
like a good way to jump-start some growth and publicity. I
sent Gail a full PowerPoint presentation of the proposal
some time ago.

The
SSCC Board (which has no racers on it), never responded in
any way for the past two years.

I
think you're right, we need to take some serious action.
If you're not growing, you're dying.

All
the best,

Tom
King

Tom & Blue,

Let me know how I can help.

The event really needs a dedicated PR rep for continued
outreach to clubs and automotive publishing world as
outreach to members.

No
one has contacted TPR or me for 15 years. Your loosing
members not because of age but because of THE lack of
outreach by SSCC

Hey Brothers,

If you were with us in September Gail's
announcement should come as no surprise. Steve passed away
and Gail remarried.

Too soon to say whether the Loss of Steve and Gail or
the loss of K&N Filters as a key sponsor or aging
participants and board members will be able to save the
event.

But going to see how I can help save what has become
our annual trek to Mecca.

If any of you have any ideas on how to keep this twice
a year event going short of finding a hidden drug cartel
stash or turning the clock back 10 years please let me know.
