[TPR] Pantera Values

thanks for all the replies guys.  Yeah, I have a couple sets of caps too, but as Kirby mentioned, its a crap shoot.  Line-boring and bigger/custom bearings are very likely required.  All the options put forth are possible but a big hassle and stuff I will do when there are no more standard-bore 4-bolt blocks left on the planet.  I'm starting to think we have arrived at that point in time.  I have looked under most rocks now.  I'll probably keep looking for another few weeks and then just go with a 2-bolt block and keep the HP to something reasonable.
Thanks,
JB

Yes, you can if you have the main caps. You may find though, that to make them fit, you’ll have to line bore too much.It all depends. I’ve got at least two sets of 4 bolt caps that I’m not using. If you’re interested, you can try them.

FWIW, I wouldn’t be scared of 2 bolt blocks.I ran one for years and wound it to 7000 constantly, sometimes more. Now, it was only putting out about 430HP at the time, but still…

JB, it sounds like you need to get in touch with Bud Hower (#3400) as he's got lots of the standard bore type Cleveland blocks he has collected over the years............

I want standard bore because I need to machine it to get a clean bore.  You can't start with a 30-over block and get something that will make a lot of power if it has to be bored again and ends up at 40 or more over.  Not a got recipe for a Cleveland

I have three fully assembled engines of unknown use and condition sitting in Bullet's barn.  They are all most likely 2-bolt blocks and all have 2V heads.  If you are really desperate for a block, I might be able to find time to tear one or more down to mic the bores before SSCC.  Then, assuming I find one suitable, we could haul it in the truck to Ely.

DaWg,
I'll sell ya ol' yeller for 58,000, but it doesn't have an engine in it right now so I'll plan to push you around the block for the test drive.

Guys & Ms. Laurie,
I spoke to Haggerty folks (JB & Frank) today about renewal (JB & Frank) and they said average selling price for a pantera (JB & Frank) in good condition is $58 grand! (JB & Frank)....$58,000 bucks....Where have I been?
So for (JB  any Frank) of you slackers (JB & Frank who ain't driving your Pantera anymore NOW is the time to sell before the next recession starts.
Biblical (AJ) trend on economy is 7 years up and 7 years down.
Tim to sell is right NOW....after SORC and SSCC of course. ;-)
