[TPR] Engine ID PLATE

My engine block # ( the engine in car when I bought it ) does not match the 5 digit 
mechanical part # tag...Sending photo of :1)  mechanical tag ( 874  *02455* ) for #3400 Pantera2)  engine no.04980 ( on engine block rear of left bank just below head )     note: 3400 mech. and eng. don't match. though the 04980 stamp type and size is   Pantera   ----------------  Torino and full size Ford numbers are smaller and they use more digits.3)  Eng. assembly stamp of #3400 when I got car ( 3F8G ) This is another stamped number in block, front of engine on right side near timing pointer --------- this is assembly date and plant where assembled  [ this 3 = 1973]  thus it would appear that 3400 being the first car for May 72 did not have the original engine when I got her.

Bud #3400 ( Drive it like there is no tomorrow -- for there may not be ! )

John reminded me that my engine block # is HIS engine block # but he won't tell me where it is because he donated the block and has been angry at me ever since ;-).....and the engine is in the Pantera in the paint shop which is my excuse for not looking for it! LOL

Okay thanks Rowdy....I saw the larger Emission Controls plate in Halls catalog....does it have a VIN?
I have a VIN # in front compartment and there was a tag on drivers side with VIN # and that burnt up in fire and when we rebuilt the Pantera in 1999 we didn't replace any of the tags.....Anyplace else where a VIN plate is located....my Pantera is a 72
Where is the engine block # located?

Dawgy, are you talking about the small tag that's riveted just above the larger "Emission Controls" info. plate which IS painted black? If so, mine is not painted at all & the top line shows the 4 digit block # of the engine plus two other lines underneath that that contains some other misc. info. Is this what you're looking for??

Ps. This is a small brass plate painted black that would need #'s to be stamped on the plate before installation
