I didn't know newer carbs had mods to prevent that issue - cool - the only Holley carb'd car here anymore is the supercharged mustang so eventually I'll just change that over to EFI and be done with carb's for life :-)

But thank you very much for the info! And darn I wish I could impersonate a track official at TWS again :-)

Yes, they can go south with a hiccup... BUT

If you buy a newer carb, it has a modification that prevents that.
You can also buy a kit which consists of drilling a hole in the base plate and adding what is effectively a check valve...

Holley power valves suck - one misfire and they die. EFI is the only way to go :-) Otherwise keep a spare set of power valves and various jets so you can tune the car for various requirements (altitude, load, performance, economy etc). If using a double pumper carb add springs and cams to that spare parts mix.
