Dear Professor Speed,
I only lack one winning lottery ticket from implementing
your recipe for ORR success with a Pantera. Of course, I note that your
recommendations do not include any consideration for research and
development nor maintaining team morale. The lottery funds would also
include funds for the motorsports engineering and carbon fiber fabrication
department as well as what we will euphemistically call the "Brazilian
Bikini Team". A plan and a mountain of money will result in success.
Warmest regards, Chuck Engles

Depends on what VENUE you are talking about, right....if its straight line
at mohave, Bonneville, el Mirage I agree with the Pope you needs 800+
BUT, if we are talking the H-318 road then start with;
Averaging 150 Mph ;-)>
Taking allot more weight off the Pantera or adding alllot more HP
Adding taller ring gear and 5th (3,23 ring gear & taller 605)
Ron Davis rad
Add an air dam or cut out the bulkhead and add a new hood with a big air
extractor
cover up A arms and bottom of Pantera
Design/add a rear end diffuser, and a rear spoiler
prayer beads
Jezus Bobblehead, etc
Last will and testiment......remember you are 68 and the pantera is a
100....its way overweight.
Yea I would love to see someone like you do it in a modified pantera that
still looked like a Pantera, with steel body, a right seat, licensed to
drive on the street, 2800-3,000 pounds but damn bro that is one heavy
challenge....not one I would ever encourage you or anyone else to try in a
Pantera....remember Junior was 14 when he last ran what he arguably called a
Pantera...okay it still had a all most stock rear deck lid....but the rest
of that 'race car' was a tube frame one off deal...no less cool but I
remember when Charlie Puckett ran something like 166 Mph in his mostly then
stock Pantera....pretty ballsy run....one he says he would not want to try
again.
Yea Cup car...I like it...we can put Pantera decals on it....probably get
Pantera body panels
to fit. ;-)

Step 1: Install a 600 cube Ford NA motor or build something supercharged -
you need about 700+ HP to bust past 200...
Step 2: weld those breathers down :-)
There will be a lot of other items that rear their ugly heads going to
200+...

If you're looking to run unlimited in the Pantera, I think you've got a lot
of work to do. I don't recall all the details (I think they're in a POCA
newsletter or Profiles somewhere), but there is a team who did Bonneville in
their Pantera and exceeded 200 MPH. They didn't have a lot of body mods as
I recall but they had to have some serious horsepower.
Is it Daryll Adams that has the modified Pantera he's been running at the
Mojave One Mile? I believe he's been approaching 200 MPH but again, lots
of horsepower.
There -is- info out there if you want to challenge a speed north of 165
which it sounds like you are considering. How soon do you want to attack
it?

Snow Job....If you run Unlimited you will have to run behind me!
Looks to me like from that photo you took of me being scooped up by the snow
blow proves once again I am invincible.
Yea, bring it on!
PS I just heard from Doug Mann (D-Mann) who said Joe Moore tried to call
him

Just got back from NORC, a 6300 mile trip. What a time. MD was a great
mentor and certainly knows the ropes.
MD was instrumental in me getting a new set of wheels. The only problems
with it are the steering rack is shot and the tires. Talk about a problem
getting tires for Pantera's 15" wheels. I'm open to suggestions. Here she
is!!!!
I just was in touch with Gail at Silver State and she said I would be able
to run in the unlimited class.
Now we all know that MD might exaggerate at times but be prepared for the
SNOW JOB!!!!
More to come.
