To the Faithful
This is the one I have been waiting for; a case where Ethanol is actually affecting our Collectable Vehicles.
A good friend of mine gave me a call the other day. He was asking my advice on a carburetor problem he was having; the secondary float level was flooding. He made several adjustments, all to no avail. He then phoned Holly Tech and here it comes; he was told it was a national epidemic and they had no solution. The problem was the needle & seat had soft substance that the Ethanol was eating on. The only suggestion they had was to use a hard seat that you would have to lower the fuel pressure to the carb and there was a possibility of running out of gas on hard acceleration.
I suggested he call the Carb Shop, and see if they had after market solution. They did not, and stated it was a universal problem with all brands of carburetors.
This was very troubling to me, as Ethanol could put companies like Holly and Edelbrock out of business and put our collectable vehicles in the garage. The Classic Hobbyists would probably be affected the worst. If Ethanol eats up the carb on a car like an old Cadillac, Duesenberg, Model T, etc. what do you do then. A street rodder or muscle car owner can still buy a new carburetor, at least for a while.
My friends this is a serious situation for the Collector Vehicle Hobby. The Federal Government is the force behind this, in particular the E.P.A. However the current administration is mandating the use of Renewable Fuel to the extreme. As I have said before; “Corn should be in the grocery store not the fuel tank”.
I watch the Business News daily, and the price of Corn is going thru the roof, due to Ethanol and the drought. Farmers are selling off their livestock because they can’t afford to feed them. Prices at the grocery check stand are rising dramatically and I’m sure will continue to do so.
I went to the Auto Center and looked at new cars. The price difference between standard drive train and “Eco” drive was astounding. I saw some with a $10K difference for the same model. The turmoil in the Middle East is likely to end up in another war that will cause gas prices to skyrocket. I spoke of this in the Faithful Bulletin dated September 21, 2012. I feel the current administrations concept to reduce dependence on foreign oil is wrong and needs to be changed.
I have said many times “SILENCE IS OUR ENEMY”. I urge you to contact your local Congressman and let him know how you fell. http://www.house.gov/
