[TPR] Tires for Asa's Cat

Before I ran SSCC I was offered these from Larry Stock.
 
01027K 5 Wheel, aluminum 17X8 frt "CAMPY"
01027L 5 Wheel, aluminum 17X11 rear "CAMPI"
     
28003A 5 Tire, Sumotomo 245/40-17 HTR-Z
28003B 5 Tire, Sumotomo 315/35-17 HTR-Z

Larry Stock offers the above for use at SSCC.

Sumotomo, I believe this is a typo for Somitomo
 
I agree that the best is none too good when it comes to tires at high speed. I ran SSCC on 149 mph tires -- but was only in the 95mph class. And would have run it on Toyo ST -- 130 mph rears had Eric let me.

As JB says open road racing ain't for everyone.
Yea high speed blow outs are butt ugly.
Michelin are good and so are others but go with the best if you are ever gonna push the limit. Consider even asking Eric as he has collected some data on what tires perform well and which ones have not....and the results might surprise ya.....He's more opinionated then Durango Dave but don't be afraid to ask....
I've been Lucky with ORR  tires but I've replaced them often and only run high speed Y (186 mph) rated high performance tires......no race tires and no shaved tires...then I ain't going as fast as Irish Donegan or Durango Dave either!
Having said that Tire Tech do a good job of checking tires at pre-grid where they inspect all tires of all entries and every year they find at least one tire one car with a piece of debris/bolt/etc. And thats before you even leave the starting line.  But then you know all that already.
Once you START your on your own....you might be thinking, "hey did I REMEMBER to add a couple extra pounds of air before I got down to pregrid at 6am"....
And then did I remember again to check air pressure and bleed off any excess air before I got strapped in the car....and then  remember sometimes we have had snow and ice on the cars at SS in September temps at 6 am leaving Ely can be 30 degrees warmer by the time you get to Lund and Pre-grid.
I don't ever forget the accidents I've seen in orr competition in Nevada, Nebraska, Texas and Mexico. So I always check my tires 3-4-5 times....you scared yet? GOOD! ;-)>
I am SCAREDeverytime...Headed home next week..remind me to check my tires! Hell remind me to check those Boeng 777 tires.

For autocross if a tire fails likely you'll just eat a cone or hay bail. At SSCC if one blows you could lose your life...so run cheap (I use the term loosely) ones for AC and get some real serious ones for SSCC - run flats if you can... My next set will likely be Michelin pilot series...
