Thanks Dave and Rowdy....Honestly, I don't have the budget to play or experiment with lessons learned for a new twin turbo engine and don't want the added weight of a big block although I think the big block or the new modular engine choices are all good. And what I really want this week is a BOAT! ;-)))

The key to my engine's longevity has been keeping the temps and R's down. Don't want to take anythng away from the engine builder (Russ Fulps) or any attention to detail on assembly and agree skimping on parts costs is penny wise and pounds foolish.

My cost for a engine overhaul year was $3 grand. And I was told recently that Russ is still building Cleveland strokers for around $5-6K but as the supply of good blocks disappears the smart future move seems to be going with a DART or other aftermarket block....speaking of which has anyone posted anything on the NEW Cleveland block I read about 2 years ago on the Forum???

I could be wrong here but I don't think my purpose built Cleveland 381 ci stroker at 500+ RWHP would have lasted so longwith out the added mods to gearing and cooling. I could be wrong here but I doubt it. To run a 'sustained' 6,000 to 7,000 R's like the boys with big budgets do constitutes a whole another discussion on seasonal or sooner engine pulls...I just know it ain't happening any sooner then every other year if it means I gotta pay for it and I don't know of anyone else who is paying for it! ;-)   I hear allot of  'you've been lucky' or 'your not running sustained 6-7000 R's with that Cleveland' and no argument there.

But she will run hard all day on the road or doing the 2-way runs at either Texas or Nebraska the same 2-way runs it did at the Gamblers, Pony and Bonneville road races with the same Pantera and engine....remember the turn around is slooow at these 2-ways...its all most as slow as the delay in run times at open track events.  In Mexico we had 6-turn arounds at the La Carrera running 16 miles in each direction 6 times. Crazy fun but wouldn't want to go back down to Mexico now....okay maybe in the Spring! HAH.

Hey turkeys...I'm off to the right coast for a big Thanksgiving Family Get Together at Annapolis with all the grown kids and grandkids.....Will be back home in a week but best wishes to you and yours.

My opinion would be:

for a NA motor (normaly asperated) 1.5 hp/ cube is about
the limit.  and that would probably need valve springs once a year.
So. 1.5 times about 430 cubes (for the gurly motors)  = 645 at the flywheel
which would give 548 at the wheels.  Stroked big block (545 inches) would
give 817 at the flywheel and 695 to the Pantera wheel. Add maybe 200 for nitrous
for short bursts.

But, NOT cheap and NOT a two year motor!

A gurly motor w/ boost might do 1000-1200hp with the
added feature of street friendly manners when "adult driven"  (that leaves
me and the angry puppy out.)

Remember: a drag motor only needs to live for a short
time.  A motor for the texas mile a little longer.  Bonneville you
need a motor that will run 10 miles WFO.  Not so easy.

BBORR is 118 miles - this takes a different motor if you
are running 140+mph speeds.

Lately I'm thinking that a $10,000 450hp motor might be
enough.  Add $5000 and get more power and less longevity????
Why?  a NASCAR motor gives ~800ish HP and lasts 800 miles before a rebuild
. . . .

>Okay you guys  (not mikey, Jack or doug Mann) are the experts here so  I ask sinceDoug Mann's Pantera slammed into a telephone pole at 200+ mph who else can make 1,000 Hpto run on pump gas?. ;-)
>
>
>Without the benefit of beer at the finish line of Ely Nevada, Fort Stockton Texas or Arnold Nebraska how can you transfer a quarter of  that 3,000 HP to say 800RWHP to a small block Ford that runs on pump gas and doesn't break at its first WOT run?
>
>
>And get it to to KEEP running on the street like a kitty and also run like a scalded monkey in all forms of competition including endurance racing like ORR competition and hill climbs without grenading?

>I know we have a few guys who claim 600+ RWHP Pantera's but most of them have the Pantera's parked in the garage. lol
>

>So other then twin turbo charging your street engine.... is there any other way to build a street legal engine that makes 800+ RWHP to last 2-3 seasons for under $25K?.  Okay lets say for grins the engine makes1,000 RWHP that can be driven every day or on weekend road trips and raced in open track, hill climb and orr competition as well..just turbo?
