Hello Mad Dawg & Russel,
I drove the Winged Warrior today, after changing the PCV valve and checking
that the oil level was not high.
The engine is still blowing oil mist and smoke out of the breather, mainly
between 3,500 & 4,000 rpm. Oil pressure is about 73psi in that rpm range.
It does not smoke through the exhaust.
Compression seems fine and is consistent between all 8 cylinders (all at 150
psi cold).
All suggestions are welcome, as I'm not sure what to check next.

Armchair Mechanics? Oh You must be talking about the DeTomaso List. ;-]>
Thanks Russ but I am not on the DeTomaso List. I will share with the TPR group
and hopefully someone will forward it to Dan and the List.

Hi Dennis:
Could you please inform all of the armchair mechanics that if they don't know
what they are talking about to please not stir the pot with their solutions. I
will chime in and tell you that if the shop that assembled Dan's engine
used (LOW TENSION OIL RINGS) it is highly possible for it to smoke out of the
breathers at idle. That type of ring should never be used on the street. It
should have standard tension rings in it. The reason they use that kind of ring
is less friction on the cylinder wall for quick revs and it seals when the RPM
is at 3500 or above resulting in more power.(AT LEAST THATS WHAT IT SAYS IN
SMALL PRINT) Smile !
