Dear Dr,
Today I replaced the bad upper radiator hose and have plastic pipe over it to make sure alt fan does not get this one. I ran the engine for about 30 min. and then installed the old PVC valve into the system for the smoke/oil usage test run. I have the results of that test. But before I divulge the results, I would like comments as to what you all think I found. I will post the results buy tomorrow noon.
Sincerely,
Bud

I just ran the engine for 1.25 hrs with no smoke and no drop on dipstick !! !! !! WOW !! I don't have answer to why yet as I made 3 changes at once. I went back to old intake --- put sealer on both sides of gaskets -- and didn't use the PVC valve. I wore a hole in upper radiator hose on the alt so I will have to go get another from the farm tomorrow and put a piece of another hose over it to protect from ware.
Look out Arnold, here I come ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Asa,
4972 = #1 intake port shows no indention from intake manifold, plus oil present
4973 to 4982 = ports 1 through 8 in sequence
Photos don't show the oil very well -- if some weren't leaking, there was so much oil in the intake that it ran down over gaskets as I removed it ---- the lower plenum had a lot of oil in it, as it would have to run up hill to get into the heads
Ok, what would the PVC valve done to me if bad ??? ----- it rattles --- and the hose is ported into the carb on one side but is channeled to above both plenums

Asa,
4625 = shows, to center gasket it should align with top edge of head
4628 = shows ~ .030 gap above .220 thick cork ( I used RTV Copper here )
4633 = shows gaskets in place
4945 = Photo shows PVC on right bank and open hose fitting on the left bank. Gaskets are the Dan Jones recommended Victor Rienz #95078SG. It is not a turkey tray style.
I'm thinking intake gasket leaks with the leak at lower plenum being worse than the one to the upper plenum. ? The gasket new is about .065 thick, which I thought would seal well.

Bud,
Did you have a crankcase vent hooked up? Could it have been pulling too much oil vapor, or maybe too much oil in the heads?
What do you think the problem is?
I once had someone tell me they like to torque the intake to the heads before torquing the heads to the block... though I've never done it that way. The gasket should have enough to take up the minute amount of the slack.
Do you have any indications of oil seeping past the intake gasket? I guess that's the real question. If not, then I'd be looking for cracks in the manifold sucking oil from the valley. But before I assume that, I'd need to know what kind of intake gasket did you use. Did you use a turkey tray? Or just straight gaskets to the heads?
I need more pictures... I'm dying of curiosity here. :)

Well, here tells the story -------- not the hole story yet -------- I will pull intake and try to figure out how to check relationship of intake to heads ------ then how to fix it.
Photos show 6,7,1,4 more fouled than the rest ----- these are connected via the low side of the dual plane intake.
4970 = shows a lot of oil in lower plenum --- cyl 6,7,1,4
4971 = shows some oil in the upper plenum --- cyl 2,3,5,8
oil loss running engine on test cart at below 2500 for one hour = 3/8 " on dipstick
Relieved that it's not a ring or valve seal/guide problem -- But now how to get measurements to give a machine shop for correction of intake?
