I'm back and I am MAD as hell and I plan to piss on some Corvette tires when I get to Ely in May.
AJ - I second JB's comments - thanks homey.
You let the slackers know on the De Tomaso List I have more money then I know what to do with and I may sponsor anyone who can go faster then me on the road course with a street licensed Pantera. ;-]>=====================================================
The rest of this is for TPR members only...
JB and I are gonna fly later this month or early next month over the Sierra's to Ely to check out man caves for sale.My deal in Portland is dead. Gonna work for next 6 weeks here. The bank approved our
loan application but the final underwriter review killed the deal.....
First it was they wanted 6 months cash reserve for EACH property and we met that okay......then they wanted employment verification and additional updated statements and they got that as well and the president of the company I work for called them himself to support my loan....but in the end the underwriter and a second underwriter said they were not comfortable (whatever the hell that means) with my contract employment. Maybe we will have better luck in Ely then we did the last two times we tried to buy there....I hear property values have dropped. And I am pretty sure I would be happier in a second home where I can regularly drive 5 minutes to the start line instead of 11-12 hours from the west coast.
There is an interesting story you guys will think is something I made up but its too gawd dam real not to be
true. And here is the story on the 2nd house we tried to buy. Oh yea the first house JB and I tried to buy the old lady who owned it turned down our offer about 5 years ago.
And this last time, JB flew up with Chuck "Bulldog" Brown to Ely as JB was once again running one of the course planes for Silver State which he has done several times in the past while he was still working on his gay Pantera Kirk firewall or some other bogus excuse. ;-]>
At any rate we looked at a 4-bedroom house 2 years ago that had a detached 3 car garage with a SHOP that included an 85 year old 10 ton hoist and a finished meat locker in the basement of the house. There are allot of deer and elk hunters in Ely and the previous owners were avid hunters before they died. All the walls of the shop and garage were covered with trophy antlers.....Unfortunately for us the sale
turned out to be a cat fight between the relatives of the couple who died in the house and here's how they died.....
The husband took his wife down stairs to the meat locker and blew her brains out.......then he blew his brains out. In a last will the wife left her guns to her boyfriend....yea go figure.
The meat locker had stainless steel walls and the finished and sealed concrete floor of the meat locker were in perfect condition...Yea there were meat hooks and a overhead hoist.
However when we walked outside again JB (only a cop would think of this) pointed to 3-4 places in the back yard that seemed much greener then the rest of the yard....yea shaped like maybe there were bruied bodies......you might have one septic tank but not 3-4.....So I looked at JB (Cool-hand-luke) and I said,
"Are you okay with how this
looks?"
JB looked at me with a straight cop face and said something like,
"Yea I am okay...are YOU okay?"
"I said okay with what?" ;-]>
JB laughed again and said, "we're gonna have to get a backhoe and dig up the back yard eventually....but it can wait until after we buy the place <more laughs>...besides we will be spending all our time in the shop and garage"
The rest of the story is boring but bottom line is we didn't get the place. So now we're gonna go back and try again.
P.S. The last time we flew over the Sierra's we ran into a storm.....JB said,
"You see that little hole between those clouds in the thunder storm ahead of us?"
I said, "yea, I see it,
why?"
JB says, "well we have to fly through that hole before it closes or we gotta divert our flight....blah-blah"
With credit to JB's very competent and cool piloting skills and my rosary beads, cross, and Latin prayers we got through the storm okay in between JB telling me to "SHUT THE FOKK UP".....
OKAY, the last part I made up but interestingly enough the rest of this story is the truth.
So it always comes down to this....Just think how nice it would be to drive or tow your Pantera or your Ford GT40 up to Ely and park it and you can drink beer and play with your ride in the garage. No more parking lot repairs.
PS....But, if its a Corvette your gonna have to park it across the street and JB and I have allot of friends with Corvettes but I gotta say you still gotta park across
the street.....unless you show up with party favors and you know what I am talkin bout!
18 hours of flight time yesterday and I need to brew another pot of coffee.

Asa,
I'm proud of you man! :) You are starting to sound like a racer! Let us know what we can do to get you to an ORR this year. If you're there, I'm there.
My car is currently back up on jacks trying to figure out how to get my Kirk E firewall kit installed. :] Damn alternator bracket..........hahahaha

Who has a fast car ready for ORR this year? Pantera, GT-40, Miata,
P-p-p-p-p-Porsche...., um... Corvette?
Who -will- have a fast car ready for ORR this year?
It's time to start thinking. The first ORR is coming up in April, the
Big Bend Open Road Race. Are you ready?
Get out your checklists. Two weeks before the race is not the time to
start thinking about new tires or whether you should change the clutch.
Strike while the iron is cool in this case, as in winter time
hibernation in the garage when you're not driving the car. Quit laying
in the easy chair watching
Oprah with the winter sun shining through the
window. Take an overdose of Vitamin D and hit the garage, you'll feel
so much better in the morning.
Don't make me let the Dawg out of his cage.
So What's on your checklists?*
What do you do to prepare for a race day?*
What do you do immediately after a race day?*
Let the bench racing begin.
