[TPR] 2011 Solutions to Outsourcing of American Jobs

Small story.

One of my customers, a large utility back east, outsourced their entire
IT staff to India a couple years ago. As part of ongoing product
support, we have (had?) a product upgrade available for this customer.
However, it needed new hardware to be compatible and "fast" for the
customer. They agreed and put in the orders, requisitions, management
requests, etc. All they needed was two new servers with Windows 2003
Server edition, one with SQL 2003 installed, usernames and passwords
were specified, etc.

It's now been over one year and I'm still getting emails from my guy at
this utility with forwards and replies from the IT staff. I don't
really want to say they are incompetent, but this is ridiculous. The
last email I got from him still indicated they hadn't got the logins
correct across the two servers.

Now, to put this in perspective, before they outsourced this to India,
we would have been done in less than 30 days from signing the req, to
being done with the upgrade. This project is still nowhere near being
ready for the software install and it's been over a freakin' YEAR! My
pal at the utility is about ready to quit, not because of this one
thing, but because all the other crap he now has to go through for
-anything- IT related. It's a wonder he gets anything done.
