OK, I really hate you now MD, this is close enough to be doable and I really shouldn't take on any more racing :-)
Seriously looks like fun, after I add the roll bar, 5 points and fire bottle I'll consider it. The car is capable (with the factory speed limiter) of 155 MPH - not sure if it has the HP needed to get up there in 1 mile but I guess this is a way to find out :-)

It may take a couple days for todays Mojave One Mile results to be posted..... but last year's Mojave One Mile results are posted....and Darryl's best out of 4 runs last year was 163.3 Mph.#1 160.9, #2 163.3, #3 155.6, #4 160.1)
Doc Abe did not run his Pantera but running his pretty stock blown Mustang GT ran 173.8. Lots of FORD POWER in the lineup last year and they all posted similar numbers.
RJ running Big Red ran 200.7
Race results can be found at <http://www.mojavemile.com>Go to bottom of the page (in red) and hit "COMPETE" then

I think your right Monsignor.....They are running on a old airstrip....but even running on asphalt at SS Junior was running well in excess of 850+ Hp to make 200 mph.....He had a recordable top speed of 206 Mph through radar traps at Silver State....not the 225-250+ speeds I have read about.
And while Junior may have run those higher speeds at sea level when you factor in temps, cross and head winds, course conditions and Hp losses at elevation (1%for every 1,000') its gonna be a challenge.
The other Junior (Gottleib) ran the 850Hp Camaro at SS at 17 in '89 and set the 'average' record of 190+ and while some disputed the actual recorded distance (84 vs 90 miles) no one can dispute what mongo balls either Junior
had......
Junior Gottlieb, his dad and a crew brought Big Red out of retirement with allot of media attention to run the SS/NORC again 2006.....before he ran Gottlieb'S dad told me he and others thought they could beat Chuck Shafer's record average at SS of 207 mph set in 2000. Instead Gottleib averaged 163 Mph....at the awards banquet a much more mature (now 17 years wiser) and somber Junior Gottleib said,
"No one is going to break Chuck's record until they repave that road (H318). . .but Gottlieb only averaged 163 Mph on that day he ran in 2006. Yea, 163 mph....Many other Unlimited drivers were faster....but not by much.
Probably a combination of pucker factor and course conditions. The road has some rough sections some of which were repaved last year so I am looking forward to breaking Chucks record next month!
;-))))
So back to reality, Chuck Shafers average ORR record in a CUP race car is still standing at 207 mph....no one in 10 years has come close. Even guys running twin turbo Viper's and Ferrari's with 1,100 HP haven't broke 200 (Average) in recent years.
I know the Mojave One Mile is only in its 2nd year Dave, but what is the current record there to beat?

MD,
as best I can tell, one needs about 800 wheel HP to make the 200mph
mark. I'll be VERY interested to see how speeds shake out.
Believe Mojave is Sunday only this month - I'll look for news!
thanks for the update.

Doc Abe was scheduled to run the Mojave One Mile Shoot Out this
weekend.
Doc's Pantera engine is a CUP bowtie engine which is making close to
600HP. Not sure if Darryl "SEAL" Johnson was headed back to run his
Pantera with a re-tuned big block Ford that Byers Brothers sold
him.
We should have a report by Monday.

Sorry Mad Dog,
I just don't think I want to run another ORR on 7
cylinders -- I might want to run faster than 134 mph.

Michael
Frazier's has been busy and was not able to to prepare his
Pantera for the Texas Big Bend ORR. As noted below in a
recent interview AJ conducted as our roving TPR reporter
....this disturbing news has motivated me to get my Pantera
ready for the NORC in May and I hope it motivates the rest
of you to get ready for either the SORC in August in
Nebraska or the Silver State in September.
NOT 'one' Pantera is
registered for the Big Bend ORR in Texas next week..... Dave
Adin is bringing his Miata, MF'r is bringing a Vette, and
Carter Boyer is bringing his Mustang. . .all cars everyone
loves seeing a chick drive but where are the Pantera's?

As Pantera owners get older they
sometimes begin to doubt their manhood and ability
to "make a difference" in the world. It is at these
times that their hopes are boosted by the remarkable
achievements of other Pantera "seniors" who have
found the courage to take on new challenges.
Michael Frazier is such a
person:
THIS IS QUOTED
FROM Michael:
"I've often been asked, 'What do
you do now that you've parked the Pantera for good and
retired?'
Well...I'm fortunate to have a
chemical engineering background and one of the things
I enjoy most is converting beer, wine and whiskey into
urine. It's rewarding, uplifting, satisfying and
fulfilling. I do it every day and I really enjoy it
and at my age what am I gonna do with a
Pantera?"
Michael should
be an inspiration to us all.
