Chuck,
That story is so funny....Just saw an article here in L.A. Times about a dealer
in Long Beach that has one of the mint ORIGINAL '78 Buick Grand Nationals.
Article quoted most folks coming into his dealership but passing right by the GN
which sits right outside his office window on showroom floor.....son of the
owner says occasionally they get an offer but he has resigned himself that no
one will offer what he feels the car is worth so it will never get sold. I
couldn';t help but think maybe he could sell it if he was driving it
around....then again my Pantera just sat for 5+ months collecting dust. But
here's the beautiful thing....I took my time starting it wanting to pull some
oil off the oil pan into the engine to lube the old girl up.....but here's
something that surprised me even more....not a drop of oil or fluids on the
garage floor....not before or after I drover her!!!....backed out of the
driveway, came home parked it....it sat for another week and it still hasn't
dropped any oil or water. I better check to see if there is any water or oil
left inside her! BAAWH ;-)
Linkage stretchedat the NORC and I need to get Dick Drenske to fix that problem
but otherwise the Pantera is running great. Hopefully we can fix the throttle
cable without pulling the EFI Throttle Bodies off which would mean then we have
to rebalance the system. If that is the only problem I got I outta thank the
Pantera Gods.

Dear Dennis,

Umm, no I have always been in Oklahoma except for “TDY” out of the
country.

The Olds died in Wichita……….because of my sister in law. A
delightful lady, but liberal democrat and ex-NYC prima ballerina. She was very
keen on save the planet issues and did drive a small, fuel efficient,
environmentally friendly car. She drove it until she was T-boned at an
intersection in Phoenix. She suffered some broken bones. When she moved out
to join my brother in Wichita, he asked if they could have the family beater,
the 1972 Olds Delta 88. It seems that his wife had suddenly reflected on the
merits of saving the planet with small, fuel efficient cars and decided that she
preferred to have a LOT of heavy metal around her even if it was rusty and had a
V8! They drove it until the transmission quit and it was donated to a worthy
charity in Wichita. My brother would have donated it to the NRA and she would
have given it to Greenpeace!

                                Warmest regards, Chuck Engles

Wichita Kansas? And you moved to Oklahoma? ;-]>

Just kidding.....my rust bucket was a 62 Chevy Pick up....which I bought as a
firewood and garbage transporter which soon became the UNPAID transportor for
all the relatives and neighbors in Seattle....in those days (late 70's) there
were few pick ups in the City.....anyway it was so bad (how bad was
it?)............

that when I drove I could look down through the floor boards.....rust was so
much worse on body and frame....remember not having ANY brakes coasting down
from mountains with a full load of firewood....down or upshifted all the way
back into Seattle using an emergency brake....got pulled over by WSP one time
for going too slow...said my excuse was the load of firewood in the truck
bed.....he took one look at the truck and then me, and said get off the highway
if you can't maintain 50 mph.....I might have been going 50 mph down
hill....maybe more but I got that load of firewood back to the house and the
right front wheel fell off the truck soon as I moved it.
How'd that happen?! ;-)

Dear Dennis,

Now, that is not exactly the high horsepower and lateral G
force video I would expect from you,but it does nostalgically remind me of my
rusty (but not near as rusty as the chevy) 1972 Olds Delta 88. Sigh. What
pre Pantera shenanigans I had with that car. I am told that it went to car
heaven (or the salvage yard) in Wichita, Kansas. What memories, but I like
the Panteras much better.

                                  Rust never sleeps, Chuck Engles

Guys, Mary Ann & Isabella,

If this YOU TUBE feature doesn't bring a tear of nostalgia to your eye thinking
back to when you were driving your fine rust colored automobiles in the snow
then I don't know what will....all guys who grew up in Florida, Saudi Arabia or
California can delete NOW - everyone else will love this. ;-)>
