Pat,
You need at least 17 inch wheels for 996 Turbo brakes. They use 13 inch
rotors and as a rule of thumb, you need a wheel with 4 inches larger diameter
than the rotors.
If you are using 17 inch or greater wheels, the 996 Turbo calipers are
probably a good choice. The 996 has about the same weight distribution, is a
bit heavier, and is nearly a 200 MPH car, so we are leveraging the Porsche
engineering. If you have 18 inch front wheels, you could consider 6 piston 996
racing calipers which use a 14 inch rotor. There is also a huge selection of
pads for the Porsche calipers.
One other issue is if you want dynamic (or floating) rotors. Dynamic rotors
are mounted using a slotted interface so the rotor can expand relative to the
hat. For serious heat, this reduces stress and lets the rotors last longer
without cracking. I think most serious race cars use dynamic rotors. We can
probably work that out if someone wants it. We are using Coleman rotors, and
they make both hats and rotors for dynamic rotor setups.
We have brackets to mount the Porsche 996T calipers to the spindle and rear
carrier, and they are designed to match the rotor positions using Wilwood
"Pantera" hats.
Pat Mical makes (or at least use to make) a brake upgrade using 996 Turbo
calipers. Since he is doing work for you , you might ask him about them.
